SAIIA Western Cape invites you to an evening with Ambassador Gormley, who will discuss the political, economic, cultural and people-to-people dimensions of the relationship between Ireland and South Africa.

He will speak about Ireland’s role in the European Union and its relationship with the United Kingdom. He will also touch on the challenges of climate change, conflict and disinformation.

Ambassador Austin Gormley
Austin Gormley is Ambassador of Ireland to South Africa and to the Kingdom of Lesotho as well as Ambassador-designate to Botswana, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and SADC. He previously served as Ambassador of Ireland to Sweden. Austin Gormley was previously Director General of the Corporate Services Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs (2017–2020) and Director of Ireland’s Passport Service (2015-2017). He served as Consul General in The People’s Republic of China (Shanghai) from 2011 and prior to that was Communications/Education Director for the Irish Aid programme.
Refreshments will be served before the event.

Entrance is free for SAIIA members.
